Five Tips For Staying Motivated

Listen to this post HERE

Staying motivated to do things, especially this past year, is not always easy.

I get that it can be hard to always do the things you need to do to further yourself towards your goals. It can seem like everyone and their mother is being more productive than you and getting stuff done but you still lack the motivation to do what you need to do. Could this be because you are being lazy or because you need a break?

If you are bored, stop being lazy because the more you push your to-do list off the more you won’t want to do it. It is like ripping off a bandaid, just do it (you may recognize that phrase from my last blog post). If you need a break, well…

Here are my five tips for staying motivated:

1.You need to take breaks. I remind myself of this all the time. You need to take breaks to recharge and be productive. Working nonstop will put you on the fast track to burnout and that is not a cute look, honey. If you are someone who struggles with only wanting to take breaks, try setting a timer as the time you will spend working and when it goes off you can have a five minute break.

2. Get outside. I swear to you there is nothing quite like going outside and immersing yourself in nature. If you can, leave your phone behind. If you can’t do that then try to put it on do not disturb so you can focus on nature and not technology. Technology is a great tool but it can also have a very draining effect. Fresh air will help you.

3. Get your body moving. For me, if I don’t move my body I don’t want to do anything. Getting up and moving my body in some way really helps to clear my mind and makes me feel ready to accomplish what I need to accomplish. I also think taking breaks throughout the day, especially if you need to sit for you job, to walk around is very beneficial. Bonus points if you can walk outside.

4. Make a list ahead of time. I find it very beneficial to know what I will need to accomplish in a day before the day arrises. If you are someone who likes to write out your to-do list the day of, wonderful. I am not that type of person. I typically have a list going for each day of the week up to a week in advance. I love the feeling of being able to remove something from my list when it is done and also knowing if it wasn’t possible to get to everything that I can add it to another day.

5. Have fun with your tasks. I get that not every task that you are going to have to do is super enjoyable, but if you look at your tasks as some big hassle and horrendous time it will feel that way when you try to do them. Some tasks are going to be not fun and that is just the way it is but, hey, you are alive to do them so that is a good thing. If there is something, like vacuuming, that you don’t like to do, make it fun. If I do chores that I find less than entertaining I will listen to music I love or a podcast. This makes tasks much more enjoyable.

These are five things that help me to stay motivated and maybe they can help you. Do you have anything you do to help you stay motivated?

It is very normal to go in phases of feeling like you are doing everything and then feeling like you are not doing enough.

Sit back, relax, breathe.

You are doing great.

You can do whatever you set your mind to do.

Until next time,

-H
