Ballet Baby

When was the last time something made you feel ALIVE? I don’t mean alive, I mean ALIVE; heart pumping, belly butterflies bumping, dance inducing, “eek” sounds escaping from you.

I just had one of those moments. It is Saturday, November 14th. The time is 10:23 in the morning. Why did I just experience one of these moments? Well it is actually from a simple pleasure of mine. I started to play a soundtrack called Springtime in Paris on Apple Music. The music gives me a feeling that I can really only describe as “!!!!!!” and I hope that makes sense.

I hit play and as soon as the music started I got the urge to dance. I never really trained in ballet but yet here I was dancing around like I was in a ballet. I felt alive and happy and excited to be given the opportunity to be doing life the way that I am. The inner child in me came out and I didn’t care who saw or what I looked like, I just knew that this felt right to do.

This experience made me realize just how far I have come in this life. I have gone through my share of battles in my 24 years. I have had some persistent demons inside my head that have liked to tell me that I am not worthy of happiness or that I am not worthy of being alive. That is deep and dark and twisted but I would be lying if I didn’t tell my truth. Do these demons in my head still have the same grip on me that they did when I was younger? No, but they will always be a part of my life story.

So as I was dancing around being thrilled at this feeling of being ALIVE I realized just how amazing life is and that it is important to look for the things in life that make you feel like it is the most magical gift, because it is.

The mere probability of you being born is a chill-inducing thing to think about. You are alive for a reason. You have a purpose on this Earth. How cool is it that somehow, against all odds, you were made. You got to experience life.

Life can feel heavy, dark, and scary sometimes. This is why it is important to remember the things that make you feel ALIVE. Take time each day to do something that makes you feel “!!!!” inside.

What is the point of not living life to the fullest? You get one shot at this miracle called life so you may as well do everything you can to take advantage of the finite time you are granted.

If you feel up to it, write down three things that are making you feel ALIVE today. Bonus points if you want to share them with me!

I will start. Today I am feeling ALIVE from these three things:

  1. Springtime in Paris soundtrack on Apple Music (ballet- inducing music I tell ya)
  2. Coaching calls I had this morning (I love nothing more than helping people)
  3. The weather (36° in mid November with no snow calls for a long walk)

Today I will be making sure to take advantage of the feeling of being ALIVE. I will make sure to think about how grateful I am to be this combination of DNA and cells and to have the brain that I do. Life is cool.

Take the time to do something today that makes your inner child come out and do ballet.

Until next time,

-H

  1. I 100% agee, we should try and live life to the fullest as life is a special gift that we are lucky to have! In terms of the 3 things that make me feel alive

    1) Writing blogs and helping people that read them – gives me a sense of purpose!
    2) Went on a 2 hour walk earlier on today, was so good!
    3) My friends that I love to bits, they really help me with my happiness!
