Why Am I Like This?

I have definitely asked myself “Why am I like this?” more times than I would like to admit. Maybe I was wondering why I liked someone I liked, why I liked the type of music I did, why I reacted to things the way that I did, or why I liked the foods that I liked. There are many areas where this question would come up for me.

I used to really get hung up on ways that I was different than people and then I became more comfortable with who I was. Social media then started to get popular and I would see people posting pictures of their life and once again I began to wonder why I was “different.”

Can anyone even define what “different” or “normal” means? In some ways everyone is the same. If you strip us down to DNA we are all made up of the same materials. However, if you compare the way someone acts to how another person acts it could be similar, but no two people act the exact same.

We are all one and yet we are all so different. I think that that is what is so beautiful about humans. I think it would be horribly boring to all have the same interests and wear the same type of clothing. Can you imagine a world where everyone had the exact same two step dance and we all wore all grey clothing and had to have the same haircut and the same preference in food?

I wouldn’t want to live in a world where the people were all the same. Life is so cool because people are different. I love to learn about the history of the world. How is the food different in other countries or regions of the United States? What do the many types of religions believe in? Why do people live the way they do in a certain area?

I want to learn as much as I can about the world during my lifetime. I want to meet all sorts of people and hear their stories. What makes them them? What’s their favorite food? What is a smell that will always take them back to their childhood? What is something that makes them feel at home?

I think the people of the world are too beautiful to not appreciate. I appreciate how different we all are and how alike we can be at the same time. We may not look the same or have the same taste in music, but I think we all want to be happy, healthy, and to feel loved.

Show compassion to people you meet. Be friendly and open up. You never know what you can learn from a random person you meet or how a random person can turn into someone that plays a huge role in your life.

I guess what I am trying to say is be kind. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others.

Relish in the uniqueness of every individual on this planet and be grateful to not live in a mundane world.

Until next time,

-H
