The Time is Now

When the year 2019 was coming to an end I had high hopes for 2020. I was envisioning this new decade full of great things. How could a year that is clear like vision (20/20) be anything but amazing? Well let’s just say that this year has tested a lot of things.

I think a lot of people would agree that this year has had an insane amount of terrible things happen. To name a few, there have been fires, a global pandemic, and the killing of people.

I am a person that believes in trying to see the good in things but I would be lying if I said that I have always been seeing the positive this year. It is taking more work to see the good. The tragic events that have taken place this year have dampened my mood.

I wanted to think that we could just skip this year because it was all bad, but then I thought better of that. Has this year been extremely hard? Yes. Has this year brought up circumstances that I never even imagined I would have to face? Yes. But, has this year also brought about a new way to things? I sure hope so.

I can imagine that being a caterpillar stuck inside a cocoon becomes so uncomfortable at the end, but then they burst out as a beautiful butterfly. They have to make it through the uncomfortable process to become something beautiful. That is what I am thinking is going to happen this year for humanity and the Earth.

The world needed something to change and it kept telling us but we wouldn’t listen. Eventually things got so bad with the way we were treating the Earth and each other that the Earth had to step in and create a change for us. I think the pandemic was a way to say we need to slow down and connect with loved ones.

I think that the pandemic will have companies looking at the lives of their employees in a new way and making sure that the quality of their life is good. I think there will be a lot more people working from home and being able to experience more moments with the ones they love. I think people will understand how important it is to check in with the people they love, how important it is to get out in nature and to not take nature for granted, how to get innovative with things when stuck at home whether that is for workouts, cooking, etcetera. I think we will start to treat the world with the respect it deserves.

Another thing that has been huge this year is that I truly feel this is the year we start to come together as humanity. It is time people come together and stop judging people for their skin tone, their sexual orientation, their religion, or the way they dress. I find it hard to believe that these are still issues for people. I just do not understand how anything other than the way a person acts towards others should classify who they are as a person.

This year has been uncomfortable. This year has been stressful. This year has brought up topics that have been pushed down but needed to be talked about. This year hasn’t been fun, but I think it is going to be one of the most monumental years in history. This is the year that change happens. It starts now. It starts with you. It starts with me. Use your voice. Speak up for what you believe in and say it proud.

This is the year to come together and make a change. Change is not a comfortable thing to go through and this year is a perfect example of that. I believe we have burned down and now we are starting from ash. It is our time to be like a caterpillar in a cocoon; soon we will be beautiful. We go up from here.

Let’s learn and grow from the year thus far. Let’s do better for the future. Let’s create a lasting change that will better the Earth and the lives of everyone.

We can do this. We will rise.

Until next time,

-H
